The first ever (we believe…please correct me if I’m wrong) S8mm film using Motion Control was shot for the Straight8 competition 2010….the competition rules are:  ”one cartridge of super 8 — without editing. the first time filmmakers see their film is at its premiere.”

The film was premiered at the Rushes Film Festival in July and the “Directors Cut” is now being screened at the Raindance Film Festival Screening:

The Screening is on Friday 1st October at 5.15pm.  I hope to be there.

The new “Directors Cut” uses footage from the MiniDV “live viewfinder” camera, as well as the S8mm footage.

The DOPing was split between myself and Martin Gooch who was also the Director; me mainly doing the lighting and him mainly plotting the camera movement.  The camera movement and acting blocking were intertwined to create a one-shot film on the S8mm cartridge.  Martin Gooch started working on MCR in 1994 on Judge Dredd and has since done more than 100 shoots on Motion Control.  The Milo Motion Control rig was provided by VFX Co and had apparently just come off Harry Potter!  Thanks George, Dig and Jay for Operating it!

BBC Blast Interview

September 23rd, 2010

I’ll be on the other side of the Camera tomorrow, when I’m being interviewed by BBC blast about being a Cinematographer….wonder what it will feel like on the other side?

Back in June 2009 I DOP’d a short film called “Fresh Off The Boat” which was the directorial debut of Femi Oyeniran (actor who played Moony in Kidulthood) and it was nominated for Film London ‘s Battle of the Boroughs(BoBs.) Since then, Femi has developed the script along with his little sister, into a TV series and is now applying from the local youth opportunity fund to get it made. Here is the link to vote:

All you have to do is press the stars at the bottom of the page several times to vote. Please spread this as far as possible so that they are able to get the funding they need.
